"How might we fuse real-world scans with computer generated environments in a 3D space for an immersive VR experience?"
To realise this project, I worked with Games Programmer Geoff Hill. While Geoff already had extensive knowledge of VR builds, we were both curious about the new (at the time) photogrammetry tool Agisoft, and we wanted to see how much detail in organic forms we could get working in a VR environment. All of the trees featured in the experience are from the Botanic gardens, Sydney. The models and mesh were generated from hundreds of images of these forms.
We chose to compare our original forms with those of typical game assets, eventually the experience stripped off the mesh to reveal the forms below. The green mesh is that of the game environment, vs, the white mesh of our "real" environment. We chose to leave some of the extra artefacts from our capture in our original environment to clearly emphasise its origins.
